To My Most Beloved

When first our eyes locked, as I walked by a jewelry store in Portland Oregon almost 50 years ago, I held my breath and knew I had just found what every living soul knowingly or unknowingly desires. Tricia’s striking physical beauty was amplified a hundred fold with each word that came out her mouth. I could not unglue my eyes from her, melting a little bit more with each word she spoke. Though she played it quite cool, she did later confess she was hoping I would keep pressing for a date in those first innocent moments. I will scatter her ashes as she wished, along the Sandy River at Oxbow Park. The Sandy River rushes to the Columbia and eventually out to sea.
Through the five surgeries, endless nausea, pain and other debilitating NET cancer symptoms, she fought so courageously until what remained of her could no longer go on.
Though the disease ravaged her body, it never laid a finger on her mind and spirit. She would often tell me she was sorry to put me through this. “All these years you’ve devoted yourself to helping me, babe. Give me the chance to do something unselfish for once in my life… allow me to feel the joy of giving.” I meant it from the bottom of my heart.
Tricia’s stomach was a web of scars and wounds that I
kissed every day. “Your wounds are mine, no need to hide
them from me,” I would tell her. We were closer than ever in
these last few years.
Many ask about Tricia: how she is doing and all. Now you
know. She’s gone. Gone at least from the world of five
I will throw myself into my work and learn to live without her,
someway, somehow.
All in all, my friends, I’m one lucky devil.
I will love you forever my beloved Patti-Jo.

Eternally yours

  4. Dear Gino,

    This hits hard.
    Don’t know what to say, but;
I am so sorry for your loss.

Recently you were in the Netherlands (I live there, visited several concerts as a fan ever since the beginning), I think your wife wanted you yo do that.
I remember a story you once wrote about her going to the hospital for surgery and she wanted you to go on with your concerts, that’s why.
That took a lot of courage from both of you.

I’m happy for you to have your music; writing, composing and your son Anton ofcourse.
Take all the time you need, no matter what other people say. .
    Been there . .
It’s hard to find the right words. Are there?
    Words can’t heal the pain.

I wish you and Anton, from the bottom of my heart, all the best.

    Kind regards;

  5. Gino,
I am so sorry to see this news. My heart goes out to you and the family with my deepest condolences. Her pain is over and she is in a better place now, until you see her again. I met my most beloved in her uncle’s hardware store in 1984, married in 1996, and lost her suddenly to heart failure on 11/7/07 when our son was only 4 years old. A most unlucky day for us. As a fan of yours since the beginning, and as a fellow singer and drummer, I too threw myself into my music and work. Music helps us all to heal. There is no right or wrong way to grieve and cope. Grief will hit without warning, and come and go in waves. It becomes part of who you are. Handle it your way, as you respect her wishes and spread her ashes. You do not recover from it, and it is not something you get over. It can be overwhelming at times and take a toll on your body, mind, and heart. It is the price of knowing deep love. We were lucky to feel and know it in our lifetimes. Take the future, one step, and one day at a time. Faith, family, and friends will help with support and healing. Time helps heal the wounds, but the scars remain. Be all you can be, as she would have wanted. Remember all the good times and celebrate all the happy memories. Be patient. Life will be different and never quite the same, but in time your sorrow will cease somewhat, you will come to terms with it, and look to your future. Be good to yourself. Keep up your healthy routine and continue to follow your passion. She would have wanted that. They are gone, but live on forever in our hearts and in our children. God bless her and God bless you. Hang in there. Looking forward to seeing you again at the Des Plaines Theatre for your concert and birthday.

  9. Gino, so very sad to hear you have lost your love. My heart goes out to you and you family. I have admired you since the 70s and even more when I saw you in March on the 70s cruise. You were so kind to talk with me and sign my album. But even more, I loved how sweetly you spoke about your dear wife. How very special and blessed you both have been all these years to have had such a love story. ❤️ My heart goes out to you.

  10. There are no words that can be a real comfort in losing loved ones. The only consolation is the fact that a person continues to live forever in the hearts of those who loved him. Just as she must have been the inspiration for many of your songs, those songs have been an inspiration and enrichment for the lives of millions of fans of your music. I was fortunate enough to attend your concert just a few days ago in Valjevo, Serbia. Like everyone who has been privileged to be there, I send you my deepest condolences

  11. I am very sorry to see this news, it breaks my heart to read it.
My condolences to you and your family.

  12. Through your music and more recently web posts, I knew of your special love story. It hasn’t ended with the passing of your beloved wife; she will always be an inspiration. I can only say I’m very sorry for the suffering cancer brought to her, and by extension to you. Please know that many hearts understand your sorrow.

  13. Gino,
Condolences from our family. Thursday I take my wife to the Duke Cancer Center to begin her journey of discovery, so reading about the loss of your love touched my heart all the more. Only The Lord knows why these things happen to those we love so dearly. I don’t understand the reasons. God Bless you as you move forward through this new world. As you’ve said so many times, “I’ve got to keep walking”.

  14. 😔
May your trust in God’s Grace and gentle mercy be assured and rest firmly with you and your family.
    Love ya Gino

  15. You have expressed so eloquently your love and devotion to your wife and her essence lives on in your son . May you find comfort in your memories and the knowledge that she knew how deep your love was and will continue

  16. Dearest Gino~ Bless all your hearts. What a raw stillness your heart must feel.

Find the film “Here After”, with Matt Damon… as he worked with the ‘Life and Death Institute’ in Switzerland, merging these true facts in with this film. If ever a Time, it is now, truly Gino.
So much is exponentially explained with such clarity… the passed BECOMING a part of everything, including us… it touched my soul ever so deeply, and will absolutely touch Yours.

And thank you Donny Yance, whom I adore .

Bless Tricia’s flight to the Otherside. What a beautiful soul.
I am soaring side by side with you, Gino… wind currents swirling in peace, in this time of soul mourning.

  17. Dear Gino,
I am so sorry to hear this news. Thank you for sharing with your fans the depth of your love for your precious Patti-Jo, she was beautiful inside and out, your love story is one for the books. So beautiful!
Be good to yourself, indeed stay busy but not too busy. .
    May she rest in peace.

    Yours Truly,
    Joanne Randolph

  18. Take comfort in the fact that your love for each other had no doubts. That is such a special thing to have in a time like this. Don’t forget to take time for yourself and your close family.

  20. Dear Gino
Even though we’ve never met, I have always loved and followed your music.
The greatest writings of yours are the love stories you have written about your wife.
Those are the gifts that your son and you will hold forever.
    Few people love that deeply.
Now I pray that Patricia is at Jesus’ feet – pain free and embracing the beauty of heaven, where she will await your arrival along with all her loved ones one day.
I also pray for God’s loving arms to be wrapped around you and Anton, to give you peace in the coming days.
My deepest condolences to you and your families.

  21. Dear Gino and Anton.
I am sending you both Love And Comfort in the passing of your beautiful Trisha. She is such an amazing woman! You were so blessed to have her in your life for all these years. She is now pain-free. She will always watch over both of you.
    Much Love,

  22. Gino,

Sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
Thank you for your years of great music. I have been a fan for many years.

  23. I sometimes marvel at what God asks of us. There should be a better fate awaiting those who love so deeply, than to ache so searingly from such a profound grief at our inevitable partings. We’re left with little to offer each other, than our prayers and hopes for a peace to assuage such pain even in the smallest increments until our final reunion with them. It all just seems like too much to ask of us. I can only offer my wishes for such a peace to balm your grief however much….. and as soon as God allows.

  24. Deepest condolences Gino – you were both fortunate.

My heart goes out to you and Anton,

    Rick Sands

  25. Gino, what a gift you experienced to love someone so deeply. I am truly sorry for your loss.
She will remain with you in your heart forever.

  27. I am so sorry to hear of your sweet lady’s death. I can’t imagine how hard it is for you and Anton. The world is such an emptier place without her presence. You have the support of all your fans. 😢

  28. My dearest Gino, You must feel so lonely without your love beside you, Tricia left wearing her angel wings and forever she will be watching over you and Anton. Your music, your son and your family will help you going through this new journey. All my thoughts and prayers will be with you for ever and Tricia’s love will always be with you. The heavens have a new angel watching over you.

  29. I am so sorry for your loss. In the Greek Orthodox Church we share the following sentiment with the grieving family and friends: May Her Memory Be Eternal! I hope this helps you find a small bit of solace during this difficult time.

  30. Gino
I have no words to express my regret to you. I can rescue the words from any of your love songs and apply them in tribute to your wife. Rest in peace. A big hug friend. Jordi

  31. Thank you for sharing. It is a bittersweet celebration of your lives together and your devotion. Very sorry for your loss.

    when you lost your soulmate.

But I believe she was the happiest woman in the world
    because you loved her!

Please take good care of yourself.

  33. Gino,

From a longtime fan. Sorry to hear of your wife’s passing. Please treasure all the memories you have from over the many years you and Tricia had together. Take care.

  34. Caro Gino

  41. Gino, so sorry to hear of this news — I lost someone dear to me two years ago to cancer. May you find the strength to continue. Know, in a small way, we share in your grief from this terrible loss. Thank you to Trisha, for the amazing person she was and life she lived. 45. Dear Gino,

The news hit me like a punch to the gut. I am heartbroken. My brother, in spirit, I am so sorry.

Nevertheless, I am blessed to remember Tricia’s glowing beauty from all dimensions, beyond time and space.

Her smile was amazing, but never more so than when she smiled at you.

Thank you for inviting me into your home in 1991 to stand witness to one of the most amazing loves I have ever seen.

My deepest sympathy to you and Anton.
    With my highest love,

  46. Gino, I am pained to learn of your loss. My deepest condolences to you and your son, to your extended family, and to all who knew and loved Patricia the best. Love never dies. I pray the strength of your love, your memories, and your extraordinary giftedness will be a balm to you as you grieve and continue in your life’s mission.

  47. Dear Gino!
I am so sorry for your loss.
I have been listening to your music since 1975 when I first heard “Storm at Sunup” in my brother’s Volvo Amazon car stereo.
    Haven’t stopped since then.
Was at your concert in Stockholm and did not know that your life partner was ill. Unbelievable that you were able to carry out the concert anyway.
But now in retrospect, it might show on you.
    Love you music

  48. Dear Gino and Anton, please accept my sincere condolences. Tricia has entered a new life, without her there would not be that wonderful music that you have been creating for more than 50 years. You will definitely meet someday. With love from Moscow.

  49. I am so very sorry to hear about the loss of your beloved Tricia. I can’t imagine how you feel nor will I try to. You and your loved ones are in my prayers. May Tricia rest in peace.

  50. Gino and Anton,
Nothing can be said of any consequence except that I realize the magnitude of such a loss. I am so very sorry. Please know that I give prayers to you as you have given beautiful song to me and the world. Know that your saddened heart now beats within all of our chests.

Bless Tricia and you and son,
    Tom Gandolfo

  51. Dear Gino,
The sad new just came to us only yesterday.
I meet my beloved one when she was probably your youngest fan in Paris in 1982. Your music and your love songs have paved our way ever since.
Be sure that you’ll be both in our thoughts.
Some of your lyrics come to mind, and resonate now with a darkest mood.
    Toutes nos condoléances,
    Laurent et Laetitia Pradeau

  52. Dear Gino, I send you my sincere condolences from the south of France. I discovered you at the age of 10 in 1975 and have never stopped listening to you. I had the immense joy of seeing you in Marseille and Monaco. Your sensitivity to the world and to people is deep and sincere. I am convinced that you will compose new and remarkable songs, we are looking forward to them. If you could consider a trip to France, we would love to see you again. May my positive thoughts accompany you in your pain. very sincerely Frederic

  53. Gino, I had the privilege of attending your concert in Pittsburgh and Dallas and did the meet and greet in Dallas in 2014. I was so heartbroken to her of your lovely wife’s passing as she has a good man by her side through her illness. I can’t imagine losing the love of your life after being married for all those years. Rest In Peace Tricia!

  54. No words can convey,
    Nor emotions imbibe…
Boundless is the love that knows no cocoon.
Though burdened by the loss, she is raised up in spirit.
While not here in form…forever present in memory.

  55. Dear Gino!
Reading your lovely and hearttouching words about the love of your life and her passing, i nearly start to cry. I know no words can take away the pain, but i know also, that we are still here after physical death, just in another dimension. Like that your wife can travel with you now, when you are (hopefully) touring again. Love to you Gino and endless gratefulness for the tremendous love you are spreading with the beauty of your music!! Hope to see you one time alive, Alex

  56. Dear Gino,

I would never have hoped to be able to attend one of your concerts, but at the beginning of the month the dream came true. Before the concert in Arnhem, I talked to other visitors and learned that your dear wife was not well. Nobody knew anything about her condition, but it must have been on everyone’s mind.

Now I have to read today that she didn’t manage to fight this nasty illness. It hits me hard. Your music and especially your lyrics have been with me for decades. I can relate to much of what you sing from my own life, the good things and the not-so-good things. Thank you for your honesty. The sad news makes me feel even more connected to you than ever before. It’s good to be part of the Vannelli family.

  57. Cher Gino,

Bon courage !

  58. Gino I feel your pain im gona include you and Tricia in my prayers . Your in my ❤️ may God’s blessings be with you always and forever . I’ll see you in des plaines in June for your bday bash .I look forward to join our hearts

  59. Gino, Thanks for sharing your loving post. God is with you always. I am a longtime friend of Jay Koder and through him, a longtime fan of you and your work. What a great role model for marriage you and Patti-Jo are.

  60. Dear Gino

I believe you will find the spirit of your beloved ever more instilled in the passion of life and art as the days reveal themselves.

My deepest condolences to you and Anton.
    Much love

  61. Heartbroken for you and family.
Wife and I recently went through a “C” scare of our own late last year. It’s debilitating to say the least.
We have been admirers of your musical journey from the very early days. Summered in Montreal for 14 years, attended numerous concerts and have felt somewhat connected to you for a long time. You speak to us in the best of ways.
    Blessings come on strange forms.
Carry on – as you should – you still have a message to share.

    Paul & Linda Gentry

  62. Truly one of the most loving set of words I have read. A beautiful testament to what a profound connection can be. May the cherished memories of your extraordinary bond bring you comfort and peace.

    With heartfelt sympathy,

    Robert DeGennaro

  63. Most of us never really know how much someone means to us until they are gone. It seems like you knew from the beginning what she meant to you and you lived it every day of your life. For that you are blessed. Knowing it will be hard for you to move on, I will pray for you for strength to get you through each day. Take time to grieve and to remember your wonderful life with her and cherish those memories.

  64. Her love brought out emotions in your voice that most people cannot express. Your time on earth was positively amplified because of Patti. Always be grateful for her presence.

  65. Gino, your story of how you felt when you first met Tricia reminds me of how I felt when I met my wife. We celebrate our 36 anniversary this month. We are both lifelong fans of yours and extend our deepest condolences to you and your family. May Tricia rest in eternal peace.

  66. Dear Gino,

I am so sorry to hear of this devastating news. My condolences to you and your family. She is at peace now, without pain, and will always be with you in spirit and love. May she rest peacefully.

    Christine Mattana

  67. Dear Gino, we saw your show in jacksonville fla. this year and it was wonderful, your voice is still spectacular at your age.
For years i wanted to get to one of your concerts and wasn’t able to because i also played in bands for almost thirty years then i started a DJ business but my son bought me tickets to your show for a xmas present and i was so pleased, not only are you a great person so caring and loving and you can tell it in your stage presence.
The guys you have in your band are top notch i really loved the guitar player he hits every note just like on your records, i feel so privileged to have been able to finally get to see your show, by the way i’m now 81 years old and still doing dj work every week i only have one guy who sings one of your songs his voice is high enough to accomplish this and its I just wanna stop which is one of my favorites. Well you take care and please keep touring so people can enjoy your wonder personality and your GREAT MUSIC

  68. Gino,

I am so so sorry for your loss. You are in my prayers. Your music has meant so much to me. Thank you for your inestimable contribution.

  69. Dearest Gino, Anton and family… to all those who truly love you and love each other as Jesus Christ commands all people to do. Love conquers everything!
My heart goes out to you along with so many others in expressing great shock and sorrow for the lost of your sweet beloved, Patricia… beautiful wife, mother and awesome friend. Thank you Gino, for sharing such a wonderful and precious part of your life!
The power of the love that you shared together is far greater than anything else this world could ever give. That love is a precious and priceless gift that sadly too few people ever experience. That love stretches far beyond ever breaking! That love never fails and that love never ends. Love conquers even the deepest sorrow and pain… it goes deep in healing broken hearts. Love is the greatest of all things! God is Love!
Through this “Stormy River” you will carry on… “So be strengthened in the Lord and in the power of His might (Ephesians 6:10).”

Let Him lift you all up and carry you in His love always. You all are in my prayers!

  70. I am so saddened to hear about your loss. Keep going … we need to hear the beauty of your music-making in this your next life chapter. I for one will always be listening.

  71. So poetic and hauntingly beautiful a tribute could only come from the mind of a song writer. Not just any songwriter, but from a man who has crossed decades of time knowing true love and an everlasting bond with the woman who would be his destiny. I’ve been with my own treasure of a wife for 44-years and can’t imagine even one day without her beside me. I pray for her continued good health so that we may continue our journey together. I will also pray for your healing and as much peace as your grieving heart will allow, Mr. Vannelli. God bless you in this time of reflection and remembering what once was, but can never be again, until your souls are one day reunited in everlasting joy.

  72. Deepest condolences. She will be rooting for you to continue beautifying our world with your music. Your post is a wonderful tribute to her. Take care of yourself.

  73. Toutes nos condoléances à l’ensemble de votre famille.
La vie est éphémère, mais le souvenir d’un être cher reste. Nous vous souhaitons beaucoup de courage, et sommes de tout cœur à vos côtés.

  74. Many of us around the world love you Gino, and by extension also love your family. I pray you will feel how so many people truly care, and that it gives you strength during this heartbreaking time.

  75. Dear Gino,
I know that no words can ease your pain, but I was so sorry to hear of your loss. You were so lucky to have such a love. Please carry on with your music.

  76. I didn’t know your wife had passed, let alone that she was sick. She would have been in my prayers for a recovery. Our deepest condolences for your loss of such a beautiful soul. 😓

  77. My deepest condolences Gino. I know for you she has been a very important person in your life.
May she rest in peace. A big hug.
    David (Italy)

  78. My prayers for comfort of the heart at this time of great loss. I know this sorrow . My husband died suddenly of cardiac arrest, at home with us waiting for an ambulance. The whole incident happened in 10 minutes, Unlike the heartbreak I know you’ve gone through as Tricia suffered, still a traumatic thing to lose your spouse. I had 41 years with Him and miss him everyday. I’m very glad you have your music. And I’m glad I got to see you and meet you in Atlanta. My husband was the one who gave you the book , God’s DYNAMITE. Be blessed in the Lord and shelter under HIS WINGS.🙏❤️

  79. Gino, I am so sorry that you have lost the love of your life, Tricia. I lost my husband, Michael 10 years ago suddenly. So I have an understanding of the burning loss of longer for that love can feel. I have been a fan since People Gotta Move. I kept Walking to Someone I Love and found Michael. I introduced him to your songs and he took me to your shows when you where in Philly. You were always so gracious to meet your fans post the performance.
You stated Gino that you would immerse yourself in work, something we will all look forward to experiencing.
    Deepest condolences.

  80. There are no words that can express my sadness for what you are going through, Gino. If there were, I would say them. Please know that you are surrounded by Tricia’s loving embrace. Lean on family and friends. Take care of yourself. Bless you both.

  81. Gino, I’m so sorry for what you are having to go through, cherish the memories, take time for yourself and family, your fans will still be here whenever you decide your ready to hit the stage again, and you are in our hearts.

  82. Gino, I am deeply saddened and can only offer you my heartfelt sorrow at your loss… but, along with so many others, I also offer you my deepest love and appreciation for your heartfelt gift of musical bliss you have freely given of yourself to this world… a gift that will keep giving through the annals of time, no doubt inspired by the tremendous love you shared with the love of your life, Tricia. May this love help you in your days of healing.

I encourage you Gino as you have encouraged me in my musical journey as a musician. You have been the soundtrack and inspiration throughout my life since I first discovered you in the 70’s. May the song of her love resonate within you forever, as your musical spirit resonates within all your ardent and loving admirers…

    My deepest condolences.

  83. Our Deepest condolences on the loss of your dear wife Tricia. May she “Rest In Peace” with our Lord in heaven. Carry on with your life and honor her with your fabulous legacy Sir. God✝️Bless

  84. “Evermore” just now mystically appeared on my browser, which I thought was really odd, but regardless, I was once again immersed in that beautiful song. And then this page came up, and my heart just sunk. I, like many I’m sure, didn’t know she was ill. She was such a beautiful woman, and you two were obviously meant to share your lives together. My wife also battled the ravages of cancer, so I know how difficult that journey has been for you both.
I am so sorry for your loss Gino. Nothing can ever replace her, and the special love you shared all these years, but she left you with the greatest gift of all – your son, Anton. You can continue to honor her, by dedicating precious time with him – and continuing to share the gift of your music with us. May God Bless and watch over you both, Gino.
    My deepest sympathy,
    Christopher Keller

  93. Dear Gino, I am so sorry for your loss, a heartbreak of a magnitude beyond any befitting description . My sincere condolences to you and your family . I lost my Mother and Sister to that beast and I truly empathize with the torment you must have endured throughout your crisis. I met her once when I was there in Troutdale attending your Art of Song and Voice classes . I recall being immediately struck with her beauty and subtle but obvious spiritual essence, and I do declare, most humbled and honored to be in her presence . blessings, TG
